We're hiring at Croptic
Data Scientist, Computer Vision
You train the AI models that recognise mosaic virus and other rare diseases in potato fields.
- Hybrid · Ghent
- Full-time · 38 h/week
- Start as soon as possible

About Croptic and the project
Croptic is a Ghent-based agritech startup. We are building a machine-mounted camera system that detects plant diseases in the field in real time, so farmers can grow healthier crops. Our first target is mosaic virus in seed potatoes.
In seed-potato fields, selectors walk the rows by hand and remove diseased plants before the virus spreads. Our system runs on their selection cart and helps them spot infected plants on the spot. Farmers catch disease earlier, get better crops and use fewer insecticides.

What you will do
- Solve some of the toughest problems in computer vision.
- Build a system that makes farming more sustainable.
On the technical side
- Build, train and evaluate computer vision models in PyTorch
- Deal with strong class imbalance: diseased plants are rare compared with healthy ones
- Prepare and manage very large image datasets from the field
- Run training and validation jobs on distributed compute, HPC and cloud infrastructure, wherever we find the cheapest GPU power
- Set up pipelines that auto-deploy trained models to the edge device
What we offer
- A market-conform salary
- The possibility of a company car
- Insurance and other benefits
- A 38-hour work week, hybrid from Ghent with time in the field
- Start as soon as possible
- Meaningful, high-impact work that helps farmers grow healthier crops with fewer chemicals
Send your CV and a short note on why this role fits you. You don't have to tick every box. If the project excites you, we want to hear from you.
