The map

You get a base rate with zones around it. The zones come from the crop stand on the multispectral images, not from an average across the whole field.
- A 3 metre grid with five zones is a common choice, matched to your working width.
- You get the map as a shapefile or ISOXML, in your terminal format.
- Every map passes Lander before it reaches you.
Why the drone
The red edge of the leaf shows the nitrogen.
We use an index on the red edge of the light spectrum. It keeps responding once the canopy has closed, where an ordinary green index saturates.
- A biomass index sees how much leaf is standing, not how much nitrogen is in it.
- Nitrogen uptake starts three to six weeks after emergence and peaks around flowering, so that is the flying window.

- Task maps are not always readable by spreader software, so we check that up front.
- Delivered for red cabbage as a top dressing, and for potatoes and onions for fertiliser.
- Independent research in the Netherlands measured an average of 40 kilos of nitrogen per hectare less with variable top dressing.
